How it all started…

Growing up in a small town in the South, I developed a passion for cooking. I have always wanted to try new flavors and cuisines. Back then, this usually meant either substituting ingredients with what was available locally or driving to the one specialty store that charged six times the usual cost.

Later in my life, I relocated to Alaska, where I found a rich and diverse mosaic of different cultures and the foods that accompany them. I experienced all types of Asian cuisines, and, no, I’m not talking about that chain buffet restaurant that Uncle JimBob claims is the best “Chinese” food. I’m talking Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Filipino, Indian, you name it. I also discovered Ethiopian and Kenyan foods, Eastern European, Pacific Island food, South American, not to mention a robust Indigenous community with all their various foods. It became my mission to experience as many different foods as possible. Food doesn’t just nourish our bodies, it nourishes our souls and brings us together as a society. Each dish tells a story, and I’m hungry to learn.
